Surgeries commonly performed at Hyde Park Veterinary Clinic include:

Mass Removal

Removing tumors, whether benign or malignant, is one of the more common soft tissue procedures. These could be skin tumors, mammary tumors, or tumors in internal organs (like the liver, spleen, or intestines). We can submit the mass for biopsy to determine if it is benign or malignant and if follow up therapy is warranted.

Gastrointestinal (GI)

  • Foreign body removal: Pets, particularly dogs, often ingest things they shouldn’t—like toys, socks, or even bones. If the object becomes lodged in the stomach or intestines, surgery is required to remove it.

  • Gastropexy: This procedure is often performed on larger breeds prone to gastric torsion (bloat) to prevent the stomach from twisting. It’s a preventive surgery that tacks the stomach to the abdominal wall.

  • Intestinal surgery: When pets suffer from gastrointestinal issues like obstruction or perforation, surgery can help address these problems.

Bladder

  • Cystotomy: A procedure to open the bladder and remove stones or tumors that may be blocking the urinary tract.

Ocular (Eye)

  • Enucleation: This is the removal of the eye, often performed in cases of severe trauma, tumor, or infection that cannot be treated.

  • Cherry eye surgery: The third eyelid can prolapse (pops out), and surgery is performed to reposition the gland into a normal position.

Soft Tissue Trauma and Wound Repair

  • Laceration repair: Whether it’s from a bite, accident, or another injury, soft tissue wounds require careful cleaning and suturing to promote healing and prevent infection.

  • Abdominal exploration: In cases of trauma, sometimes a full abdominal exploration is necessary to assess damage to organs and soft tissue structures.
